"Mass-market nostalgia gets you hopped up for a past that never existed. Hagiography sanctifies shuck-and-jive politicians and reinvents their expedient gestures as moments of great moral weight. Our continuing narrative line is blurred past truth and hindsight. Only a reckless verisimilitude can set that line straight."

Dr. Menlo: censored by China, Blogsnob and "The Lefty Directory"
The Austin News piece inspired me enough to register and comment at their site. It seems that people just don't get the fact politicians don't like them. Politicians only like Big Business and Power – over which, the wee folk individually don't control.
Or should I say the little people don't know how powerful they are as a group.
I'd be willing to bet that if you put the average Joe in a 're-education' camp and provided him with a meal and a bed and a winning camp sports team, he's fall asleep every night, happy the state loved him so much. There are less complaints from hungry bellies about the food. Ain't that the trick when the inmates start complaining about something, take it away? Then they appreciate any handout they get. Kind of like how city people think a park is wilderness and McDonalds makes a hamburger...
Sheesh, I rant. Sorry to step on your space, U$.
