Iraq is a member of the oil cartel Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. By militarily occupying Iraq, the U. S. government has become a de facto member of OPEC. Since March 2003 the U. S. government has supported all the skyrocketing oil price policies of OPEC. The U.S./Iraqi delegate has always voted for the price-raising oil production cutbacks. In Iraq, the U. S. government has cut back oil production from the pre-invasion level of 2.9 million barrels per day to 1.8 million barrels per day currently.And it's not just some internet guy claiming this but a matter of public record.
