US Government Grants Over $500,000 to Taliban to Repair Roof
The Bush administration recently gave the Taliban more than $500,000 to repair the roof of a Mosque. This 'faith-based initiative' money was gathered through taxes collected from all US citizens but in no way was this money intended to benefit all - only the Taliban. Because Islam is the only true religion, so it makes sense to only give money to Islamic groups.
Wait a minute... ladies and gentlemen, I'm sorry, I've made a terrible error. Your tax dollars were given to a Christian group, not an Islamic group. Allah bad, Jehovah good. The apparent source of the error was confusion between this and a past donation from the Bush administration to the Taliban. The amount given to the Taliban was not $500,000; instead it was $43 million. American Samizdat regrets the error.
"America was never innocent. We popped our cherry on the boat over and looked back with no regrets. You can't ascribe our fall from grace to any single event or set of circumstances. You can't lose what you lacked at conception.
"Mass-market nostalgia gets you hopped up for a past that never existed. Hagiography sanctifies shuck-and-jive politicians and reinvents their expedient gestures as moments of great moral weight. Our continuing narrative line is blurred past truth and hindsight. Only a reckless verisimilitude can set that line straight."
