Last year's passage of H.R. 3162, a.k.a. the "Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism (USA PATRIOT ACT) Act of 2001," has civil libertarians up in arms, but one portion of the bill specifically targets libraries. Recent false alarms notwithstanding, it's clear that the FBI is using the act to obtain information on library employees and patrons. |
